On the 11th of July 2024, our Founder and Team Joan Kembabazi was recognized as a Change Maker and awarded as a Women Empowerment Champion by Population Matters, a UK Charity organization that campaigns to achieve a sustainable human population, to protect the natural world and improve people’s lives.
The Change Makers awards recognizes individuals and organizations across the globe for their progressive and inspiring work of defending the environment, promoting reproductive rights and enlightening the public about the challenges we face and the solutions available.
Being awarded alongside other change makers from different fields and different parts of the World is a huge honor and a humbling experience. This award is a recognition of the work I and the Team at Gufasha Girls Foundation do in line of not only empowering and uplifting countless girls and women to break stereotypes and barriers that confine them but also strengthening the entire community. It is an inspiration to further our efforts and inspire others to join the movement towards a more equitable and inclusive world for girls and women everywhere. – Joan Kembabazi
Looking Ahead
While this award is a significant milestone, it is also a reminder that the journey is far from over. There are still many challenges to overcome and much work to be done to champion gender equality, break down barriers, and create opportunities for girls and women to thrive. Together, we can build a future where every woman and girl can achieve their full potential.
